all white now, white on time... so many puns, so little time!

My family home was full of colour. Dianne Bradley colour-coordinates her world within an inch of its life and she was always trying new, increasingly bold combinations. So it’s surprising (or perhaps not at all) that my home has a clean white palette (with a dash of pink and black). Those who’ve watched my home renovation unfold on Instagram will know that I painted my walls white (Haymes Modesty White), as well as my floors, almost the second I moved in. I love my blank canvas! This issue, we celebrate white homes, and throw out the notion that it’s only for OCD couples (does anyone remember that Absolutely Fabulous episode?). Anecdotally, we know Australians love a clean fresh palette, but worry about its practicality. Well, turn to page 80 to see…

things we love

copper crush Lift the look of your dining zone with a hint of glimmer The copper trend continues to reign supreme and the ‘Lucy’ chair makes a fitting queen. Capturing the perfect balance between hero piece and bit-player, the fine-lined silhouette of this galvanised-iron dining chair ensures that it won’t overwhelm a space, but the bright copper tone packs a punch in the personality department. Group a few around your table and add seat pads to up the comfort factor. It’s official – we love ‘Lucy’! ‘Lucy’ metal-plated dining chair by Gaurav Nanda, $550, Own World, ownworld.com.au.…

books on colour

Monochrome Home By Hilary Robertson with photography by Pia Ulin “If you ever visit a Scandinavian country or look at their magazines, you’ll notice immediately that they eschew colour most of the time,” says the author. It’s an approach that creates a restful feel. Hilary’s book is full of examples that show how this look is anything but limited. “I find that editing the palette you work with makes both decorating and dressing much easier and there’s infinite variety even in black, white and grey tones,” she says. “I’ve painted my entry hall in black, white and navy: one wall is two-thirds navy and the lower third is black. It’s subtle, but super chic. My 12-year-old son loves it.” $55, Ryland, Peters & Small/ Hardie Grant Books Colour. By Abigail Ahern with photography by Graham…
