During Apple events, I try to maintain a healthy level of skepticism as the tech giant flaunts its new releases with a characteristic hyperbolic flair. Yet during this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, it was impossible not to feel inspired as family members of coders lit up the stage at the keynote, sharing stories about the people behind apps that many of us know and love. All these applications started with someone seeing a problem in the world and deciding to use the tools Apple offers to see if they could build a solution. Name: Rheanne Taylor Title: Managing Editor Years at iPhone Life: 4 Apple Products Owned: iPhone X, Apple Watch, AirPods, MacBook Pro Office Quirk: I like to think of myself as the office mermaid—I love wearing faux fish-scale leggings, dying my hair bright red like Ariel, watching ocean documentaries, and decorating my home with bits of coral and seashells. Neato Botvac D5 Connected Robot Vacuum ($499–$599) I have pets, so vacuuming daily is essential. Botvac works wonders at keeping my home clean and requires little to no effort on my part. I can start it right from the free Neato Robotics app and even put it on a schedule. Plus, it’s kind of adorable the way it cruises through my house. My old roommate and I went so far as to nickname it “QT,” and I attached googly…

Noah Siemsen, COO The better, more intuitive notification controls in iOS 12 are clear winners for me, including the ability to group notifications by type and to manage them directly from the Lock screen. These features will make it much easier to get control of my runaway notifications. Conner Carey, Community Manager I’m most excited about Dark Mode for macOS Mojave. I think it will make a huge difference in how I feel when working on my computer. I use a writing software that has Dark Mode in full-screen view, and I love it. My eyes feel less strained, and I can work for longer periods of time without technology fatigue. Donna Cleveland, Editor in Chief The new digital-addiction-busting feature of iOS 12 called Screen Time will help me stop mindlessly scrolling through Instagram. With…

My iPhone 8 won’t work in my home but my wife’s older iPhone works fine. Any ideas? Sincerely, Dropped Calls Hi Dropped, I recommend doing a network reset. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. If this doesn’t work, it might be a SIM card problem. Try removing and reinserting the SIM card. It may also be the type of case you have. A bulkier case can interfere with reception. Remove your iPhone from the case and see if reception improves. I’d also recommend contacting your carrier. They can help you determine whether it’s an issue with them or with…
