Each year as we head into the holiday season, like clockwork, I’m hit with an existential crisis. I’m made aware of how fleeting life is, and regretful thoughts flood my mind—I could have accomplished more, been in the moment more, been more appreciative of the good times. Once the crisis has passed, my mood gives way to anticipation for a new year full of opportunity. In 2019, I plan to pursue more artistic endeavors, like producing my own podcast and learning to play the ukulele. At iPhone Life, we’ve found that enriching daily life with creativity has all sorts of unexpected payoffs. To help you start a project of your own, we’ve included a roundup of apps that foster creativity (page 78), aid the lifelong learner (page 75), and help in establishing…

Re: What do you love about iOS 12? I love that ‘Hey Siri’ now works in Low Power mode! Yippee!! However, I hate that in iOS 12, you can no longer search the Photos app for pictures taken nearby. I often used this feature multiple times a day. -Donna Campbell Re: How do you like to read on your iPhone? I love using Kindle on my iPhone to read in line at the bank, store, or even while waiting to get gas. I love that there’s an entire library in my pocket to choose from. I can adjust the font size, look up definitions, highlight text, or post from a book to Facebook. Even better than that? Audiobooks! Now all those crappy commutes have turned into time I actually look forward to! -Tim Gesner I get…

stuff the iphone life team is loving

David Averbach, CEO Blue Bottle Coffee Subscription (Starting at $9.50/month) Each week this Oakland-based company sends me a bag of freshly roasted single-origin coffee beans from a different country. It’s more expensive than store-bought beans, but is cheaper than going to a coffee shop every day. Plus, it feels so luxurious to have delicious coffee each morning. Rheanne Taylor, Video Producer 1 Second Everyday: Video Diary ($4.99) I’ve set a goal to take a photo each day in order to improve my photography skills, and this app has been great at encouraging me to stick with it. I simply take a photo at some point in my day, and at the end of a month I get to create a short video showcasing all of my little moments. ipad pro in-depth review: is it the laptop replacement apple promised?

The iPad is a difficult product to review, because in order to assess its effectiveness you have to first understand what the product is supposed to accomplish. Defining the purpose of Apple’s new iPad Pro is surprisingly complicated. I’ve been using mine for longer than a month now, and while it’s undeniably an amazing device, whether it lives up to all the hype depends on whose standards you’re considering. Based on the late Steve Jobs’ original intent of what an iPad should be, the iPad Pro is an incredible device that is the fruition of the last eight years of development. But based on Apple CEO Tim Cook’s description of the Pro at last October’s keynote, the tablet is a flawed device that doesn’t live up to expectations. “To claim that…
