After 69 years of car manufacturing and more than 100 years in the automotive industry, Holden will come to end this year. In a press release issued on 17 February, General Motors stated that the Holden brand will be retired from the Australian and New Zealand markets by 2021. In February, the first production example of the eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette rolled off the line at the Bowling Green assembly plant, beginning a new era for America’s sports car. The first production Corvette with a midmounted engine, the 2020 Corvette Stingray is also the first that will be factory-built in right-hand drive. The engine position may be new, but the engine itself is a familiar V8, mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The LT2-spec 6.2-litre V8 produces a claimed 495hp and 470lb/ft (369kW and 633Nm), making it the most powerful production Corvette Stingray engine ever. Following the online pre-ordering and long wait times for the new Toyota GR Supra last year, Toyota Australia have announced they’ve secured a small number of additional stock for the local market that are going direct to dealerships. Released in February, the new allocation will supplement the 345 examples of the Supra sold in Australia so far (to the end of January, 2020). “Being able to import an additional allocation of cars means enthusiasts can now achieve their GR Supra dream sooner than expected,” said Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley. Later this year, an updated version of the Supra will be released, with additional power and suspension improvements. bugatti launches classic certification programme

At February’s Retromobile classic motorshow in Paris, Bugatti launched ‘La Maison Pur Sang’ – a factory programme for the certification and restoration of classic Bugatti automobiles. The programme has been in development since last September and will be rolled out gradually, starting with certification services only. Led by Luigi Galli, specialist for Tradition and Certification at Bugatti, the team at La Maison Pur Sang (‘The Thoroughbred House’ in English) will determine the provenance and authenticity of individual historic Bugatti automobiles, using all available information, from historical documents and admission registers, to photos and even the comparison of certain component numbers. Ford have released details on their GT supercar for 2020, with key improvements by Ford Performance including upgraded engine cooling and more horsepower from the 3.5-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6.
