I am so in awe of designers and the incredible work they produce. The sheer calibre of the projects that make their way into this publication is a big part of the reason why I love my job so much. Though I enjoy admiring the finished products presented by talented designers, I have noticed that knowing more about the designers and their process allows me to appreciate their work on a whole new level. I spent the last few weeks in conversation with several designers who have caught my eye in the recent past. The result of these conversations, along with some exquisite project galleries, can be found from page 74 onwards. Nowadays, life is becoming increasingly fast-paced and time is more and more valuable. If you’re anything like me, there’s a…

THE RIGHT SIZE With a mix of different-sized jugs and containers, this smoothie maker is perfect for a cup — or two — of tasty liquid refreshment. Chic and seamless, with no buttons or switches, this handy smoothie maker produced delicious smooth drinks without a problem. The operational method of pressing down and slightly twisting the blending container was a new experience for me and it took a little bit of time to get used to this hands-on experience. After using it successfully the first time it became simple and enjoyable to switch blades and containers. Allowing time for the blender to work its magic will ensure smoothies are always blended well; in one instance I stopped the blender a little early and the smoothie was a bit lumpy. Besides that…

Traditionally used for flooring in wet areas as they’re easy to clean and install, tiles have steadily been experiencing a stylish rise in popularity. While still a great flooring option, they’re now also strong contenders for walls and splashbacks. Tiles are practical, but they are visually appealing too, allowing homeowners to create original spaces through varied applications and designs. Tiles could well be the point of difference in the space you’re about to renovate. THE ILLUSION OF SPACE With space at a premium in many Australian homes, creating the illusion of more room can be an important element of your design. Minimising clutter and ensuring clean lines can assist with this, as can choosing the right tiling. Large-format tiles for both the walls and floor of your bathroom will create the illusion of…

GRUNGY COOL Melbourne’s graffiti-filled alleyways exude a certain charm that’s difficult to recreate, but this custom-made tiled splashback by Jennoli Art has succeeded in replicating the grungy, cool feel native to Melbourne’s urban streetscape. We love the way it injects a pop of Melbourne magic into the kitchen space. W: jennoliart.com.au HEXA-TEXTURE Texture may be trendy, but it’s also transcendent, and these 3D hexagonal tiles are bound to make an impact for years to come. The WOW collection by WOW Design is described as an architectural vision of traditional ceramic. The range plays with light and shadow to add depth to spaces, while creating an original aesthetic.
