NO ADORABLE LITTLE ANIMALS would be harmed in the making of this jewelry design. They wouldn’t even get tuckered out, let alone the least bit dizzy. I’d spent the day with our photographer while he was shooting for this issue, and that evening, I started to tell my husband about it. Then I got to Jeff Fulkerson’s spinner bangle project and was met with a blank look. “You know what a spinner ring is?” I asked. Apparently not. “It has one narrow band sitting in a wider band that’s partly curled up. The skinny one can spin freely around without falling out. It’s jewelry to fiddle with. 3 Things She Loves • Sure grip • Soft to hold • Adjustable pressure WORKING WITH WIRE was not a huge jump for chain maille artist Kylie Jones, who had worked with fibers before. “I read Denise Peck's Wire Style and was rapt.” At the time, Jones was caring for her mother, who was ill, and living in a small space. Making chain maille jewelry, Jones says, “was a creative way to try and earn an income.” And so her collection of pliers began. “I use different pliers for different materials and gauges of wire,” she says. At first she used what she could afford, adequate metal pliers she still picks up for certain tasks. But chain maille is highly repetitive. “It is not uncommon for a necklace to have around 400 rings,” she says.…
