flair

This issue is dedicated to our beloved Executive Editor, Neil McLennan, who unexpectedly passed away recently. Neil had been a well-loved part of the Livingetc family for more than 12 years and he will be dearly, dearly missed. Over the course of my career, I learnt a lot from him. He was the master of tone, king of the one-liner, expert at conceiving narrative, but above all he had flair. A flair for fashion, a flair for language and a flair for fun. Thank you Neil for your talents – talents which you shared with us so generously. I am proud that the houses in this issue are drenched with a healthy dose of Neil McLennan flair. Jessica and Jed’s mid-century-inspired Los Angeles pad is all about the indoor-outdoor family lifestyle,…

everyone’s talking about…

1 ‘ANTI-DIGITAL’ The buzzword du jour at this year’s Milan Design Week. A café concept from DWA design studio and Lambert & Fils sought to encourage mealtime conversation with inclusive u-shaped tables and doughnut inspired bars, pictured, while Georg Jensen teamed up with artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset to launch a signal-blocking ‘slumber bed’ for smartphones. 2 MATCH POINT Grab your visor and pile up on Pimm’s – Wimbledon is just around the corner. If you missed out on tickets, make a grand-slam statement in your wardrobe instead. Lacoste’s AW19 collection is all tennis whites, lawn greens and Centre Court-worthy caps. Extra points for the heavy pleating, too. 3 RAINBOW STAIRS Do yours graduate from lime to jade, coral to cerise? Time to take your stairs to new heights, and it’s the high-fash boutiques leading…

news

THE NAME TO DROP federica biasi Federica Biasi’s story is a tale of two cities (or rather two trade fairs, to be less romantic but more precise). Having been nominated by esteemed Italian architect Andrea Branzi for Maison&Objet’s Rising Talent Awards in Paris, 2018, fast forward to this year’s Milan furniture fair and the young designer’s ascent to the top looked complete. Her new launches for big-time furniture brand Gallotti&Radice included Sophie (a sofa version of last year’s smash-hit armchair, maturing from baby pink velvet to a rust red bouclé) and Jolie – a mega-watt, mouth-blown glass and satin brass light that can be used as a pendant or wall fixture. Elsewhere, Biasi can be found flexing a more Art Deco-inspired design muscle as art director at manufacturing firm Mingardo, bringing to the…
