opposites attract

We have a very diverse issue for you this time. They say opposites attract and the articles we have in this issue are opposite in every way, from travel features from each side of the country to two bikes that certainly are opposites – in fact, they don’t even have the same number of wheels. Jamie Elvidge returns with a test ride of the Kawasaki W800 Café. She puts the bike though its paces on the highways and byways of California. In addition, she offers a history lesson on the café racer genre and puts that history to practical use as she uses the W800 Café to race between coffee shops. At the opposite end of that spectrum, when David G. Williams first heard of Can-Am’s claims that the Ryker Rally will…

new bikes

It’s new model season, and in early November in Milan, Italy, several manufacturers revealed their newest machines at the annual Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo Accessori (EICMA) – the most important motorcycle show on the planet. Here are a few of the highlights. Aston-Superior Two legendary British marques have formed a partnership to produce a limited-edition motorcycle. Aston Martin has joined with Brough Superior to produce the first-ever two-wheeler to brandish the famous Aston Martin wings. Production of this motorcycle, dubbed the AMB-001, will be limited to 100 units. The bike, more a rolling work of art than a practical everyday bike, will be a track-only special. The AMB-001 will also be the only modern production (using the term loosely) motorcycle to feature a turbocharged engine. The 997 cc eight-valve V-twin will feature a…

by the numbers

128 That’s the impressive amount of peak torque in ft-lb that is produced by Indian’s all-new PowerPlus engine. Also impressive from this 1,769 cc liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-twin is its output of 122 hp. The overhead-cam, four-valve engine features hydraulic valve lifters and hydraulic cam-chain tensioners for reduced maintenance, and a six-speed gearbox with overdrive. 3,360,000 That’s the conversion in Canadian dollars of more than two million British pounds sterling, the amount collected during the sale of classic bikes and motorcycling memorabilia that traded hands at Bonhams Autumn Stafford auction in the U.K. in October. Among the bikes for sale were 90 machines that belonged to Bill Crosby, owner of the London Motorcycle Museum. The top price fetched at the auction was a Brough Superior Overhead 680 project bike that sold for $154,000. Also…

say what?

editor@motorcyclemojo.com GLENN TURPLE – HARDCORE RIDER I read Greg Williams’ article about the 1969 Honda CB 750 (“Still a Legend After 50 Years”) in the November 2019 issue. The article brought back some great memories, as I was working for the Honda dealer in Cranbrook, B.C., in 1969. Glenn Turple figured prominently in the article. I was reminded what a hardcore rider Glenn is. He not only put more than 100,000 miles on his CB750, but he put more than 100,000 miles on his CB450 as well. On one of my many trips to Red Deer, Alta., the weather was rainy and cold. As I rode into the parking lot in front of Turple Bros., I noticed that there was not one bike in the parking lot. I walked into Turple Bros. in my…
