The good news: I lasted between 32 and 34 hours in the 2019 Spartan Death Race in Pittsfield, VT, in July. That was an improvement over last year, when I fizzled out amid 3,000 burpees around the 26-hour mark. The bad news? The DR lasted close to 70 hours, so I failed to finish… again. After years of training to toss around the likes of Brock Lesnar and Big Show, John Cena now needs to blend into comedy ensembles and share the stage with fifth graders on Nickelodeon. But he still has to be WWE-ready when duty calls. To mold a more athletic Cena, trainer Rob MacIntyre devised a program that’s geared toward increasing flexibility while maintaining strength. “Since flexibility is a goal, it’s prioritized over weights,” MacIntyre says. “Rest is short for the most part, so the workouts themselves don’t take too long.
