Yup, it’s that time again. Time to dust off the resolution notebook from a year that’s passed, see what the scoresheet reveals and just exactly how many of the goals were met in 2017. This ritual will then be followed-up by writing an even more ambitious list of goals for 2018. Personally, I have found it a lot more manageable to actually keep these under “notes” on my phone; at least it’s easier to track – not necessarily easier to follow and meet said goals. A year seems like a long time, but essentially we only have 52 Monday mornings to make the most of the week ahead. Most of us, myself included will only be back in the office on the second Monday of 2018 and we lose a…

THE MISSONI BAIA is a 57-story luxury condominium tower along 60 metres of Biscayne Bay frontage and is designed by Hani Rashid of Asymptote Architecture. The interiors are a creation by Paris Forino, under the creative direction of Angela and Rosita Missoni. The landscaping of tropical plantings and reflecting pools are designed by renowned Swiss landscape architect Enzo Enea. Angela Missoni, Creative Director of Missoni, said: “Our design DNA is rooted in aesthetic and technical innovation. That’s one of the reasons we are happy to collaborate with the many innovative and creative individuals on this project. The idea of bringing not just the Missoni vision, but the Missoni lifestyle to a residential project is something I find very inspiring. So when we heard about the concept it seemed like the…

the creueta house of barcelona

THE CHALLENGE for Zest architects was to maintain the original charm of the house, which had some very special features and was rich in detail, but also to adapt it to the needs and taste of the new owners. The house had to be repaired, and needed all the wiring and plumbing replaced. One of the areas that was basically untouched was the entrance hall, an original work by the first owner and original designer of the house. It featured a golden ceiling in three-dimensional panelling, tree sculptures directly cut into the walls and a wonderful stained-glass window with a sculpture of Sant Jordi, patron saint of the Catalans. The layout of the house was changed in some places, to adapt to the new owner’s needs. This included new bathrooms…

THE PERLES FAMILY STUDIO is the result of an integral part of the Jacob’s Pillow’s five-year strategic plan, Vision ‘22, which launched the place as a year-round campus for programs, research, and development. The complex is located in Becket, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA. The brand-new space marked the first major on-site construction project at the site since 1992. The building was constructed by Allegrone Companies of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. “This new studio ensures that our facilities live up to the prestigious reputation of The School at Jacob’s Pillow, and symbolises a commitment to our growing role as a centre for dance research, development, and training”, says Jacob’s Pillow Director Pamela Tatge. “The potential it offers is an investment in dance artists and the future of this form.” The building, clad in weathered…

the beauty of mystery

THE RESIDENTS , two adults and a teenager, work in the furniture manufacturing and aviation industry and they wanted a comfortable home they could really enjoy. They asked Shih-Jie Lin and Ting-Liang Chen of Ganna Design to do the job. The designers: “This was the second time that we partnered with this client. We had no specific opinions or ideas about the renovation. We knew which style they liked. Therefore, the homeowner trusted us and asked us to design and propose an overall concept. Apparently, we did it right: The client agreed with our proposals the first time we presented our concept.” The first thing they did, was to solve the organisation of the long and narrow base of the house. Common areas were put outside and private rooms were…

unique create rain metal of stars light

LOUVRE ABU DHABI is a spectacular museum where visitors can walk through the promenades overlooking the sea beneath the museum’s 180-metre dome, comprised of almost 8000 unique metal stars set in a complex geometric pattern. When sunlight filters through, it creates a moving ‘rain of light’ beneath the dome, reminiscent of the overlapping palm trees in the UAE’s oases. On display will be the museum’s important collection of artworks, artefacts and loans from France’s top museums. These span the entirety of human existence: from pre-historical objects to commissioned contemporary artworks, highlighting universal themes and ideas and marking a departure from traditional museography that often separates according to origin. In addition to the galleries, the museum will include exhibitions, a children’s museum, a restaurant, a boutique and a café. “Louvre Abu…
