It feels like Dying Light 2 has been in Limbo ever since its debut at E3 way back in 2019. But, as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait. It’s common knowledge that developer Techland has had a topsy-turvy time, but with new hires and a renewed vigour the game remains on track. With Dying Light 2 - Stay Human gracing the cover, this issue leads on our deep dive into Techland’s parkour zombie adventure. We speak with everyone from rendering director Tomek Szałkowski to city producer Julia Szynkaruk to discover how this highly anticipated game will make use of PS5, dig into its crafting setup, and discover the promise of choice-led gameplay is still key to everything you do in the game. “THIS YEAR’S RELEASES SUGGEST A RENEWED…

pes 2022 shoots for photorealism

With Konami revealing it’ll miss this year’s E3 (which is now an online conference beginning on 12 June), some fans have been left fearful this year’s eFootball PES 2022 will be delayed. While we have no news on whether that’s the case, Seitaro Kimura, eFootball PES series producer at Konami Digital Entertainment, has spoken to us about the team’s ambition for the next instalment. It’s exciting news, and gives us confidence the game will release as usual this autumn. Importantly, this year’s game is a reset that’s aiming to push PlayStation 5. Fans were concerned this could be similar to the transition PES made from PS2 to PS3, which saw the Fox-Engine-powered soccer sim stumble before coming back strong on PS4. The next game will drop Fox Engine in favour of…

is playstation 5 getting a redesign?

PlayStation 5 has only been out in the wild for six months and already leaked documents suggest Sony is lining up a console redesign for as early as next year. But it’s not what you think it is. As we dig into the details we’d temper expectations of Sony dropping the iconic vented look just yet. The ‘redesign’ being mooted is more akin to a forced refresh of the console’s internal gubbins than a wholesale reboot of what is, after all, a best-selling console. As Covid-19 rips through the world and cryptocurrencies dominate headlines and speculators’ wallets, there’s a shortage of semiconductors causing havoc with manufacturers of all kinds, and it could impact Sony. The reworked PS5 could actually have more power, courtesy of a new custom AMD silicon. Online site DigiTimes,…

taylor-made news

One trademark can speak 1,000 words. Our ears pricked up at the news Sony registered a new trademark for Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive. The skater shooter is the only Insomniac title not playable on PlayStation consoles. Could this mean a remaster, or even a sequel, is coming? Nothing’s been confirmed to date and large game companies have been known to file trademarks without having any plans for an IP. Time will tell what Sony’s endgame is here. Another leak hints we’ll find out before long. A screenshot doing the rounds online purports to show the lineup for an upcoming presentation. Along with known quantities like Back 4 Blood and Stray, Sunset Overdrive Refreshed Edition and something called Sunset Apocalypse appear. There’s no telling how accurate it is but, like a news-hungry zombie,…

pointing to greatness

Ace Attorney has been yelling ‘Objection!’ from the PlayStation gallery since 2019, when Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney together the first three games. This July we’re getting The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, a duology that winds back the clock and follows Wright’s ancestor Ryunosuke Naruhodo. When fledgling attorney Ryunosuke finds himself in hot water on the stand, you’ll have to work to clear his name. By inspecting scenes, scrubbing through witness testimony spotting any details that don’t fit, and occasionally making a dialogue choice, you’ll crack this case. This visual-novel-meets-adventure game crosses the boards with with its story as well as its gameplay, with action taking place during Japan’s Meiji Period and England’s Victorian era. “Ryunosuke Naruhodo and Asogi Kazuma partner up with the one, the only, ace detective Herlock Sholmes.” Ryunosuke is aided…
