Nicola Daniels nicola.daniels@inl.co.za STOPPING the installation of water management devices (WMDs) was long overdue, civic organisation Stop COCT said, as the City called for public comment on the proposed revised approach to domestic metering.
The City’s Water and Sanitation Department is proposing that from July, the City no longer installs new WMDs, and that WMDs currently in service be replaced by conventional meters, with the latest metering technology, as they reach the end of their expected lifespan.
Existing WMDs will be set to “open flow” over time, with effect from July 1, the City said.
Non-indigent customers, whose accounts are in arrears for non-payment of municipal-related services, would have their water supply restricted or reduced to a trickle flow, using a flow-restricting disc.
