VIEWERS of 7de Laan were heartbroken yesterday after SABC 2 announced that the beloved soap would not return for another season after 23 years on air.
Season 24 will end in December.
7de Laan, the brainchild of Danie Odendaal, debuted on April 4, 2000, bringing to life much-loved characters such as Oubaas, Hilda, Charmaine, Aggie, Emma, and the Meintjies family, who became household names.
The show, originally presented in Afrikaans, has gone through many transformations with the introduction of dynamic characters, storylines and languages from other races and cultures.
Over the years, it has dealt with social ills including gender-based violence, drug addiction, kidnapping and human trafficking.
