Louisa I’ve just seen the movie Shoplifters, which was up for a Foreign Language Film Oscar earlier this year. It’s about a poor Japanese family, and it’s amazing. The BBC’s ambitious plans for a fancy new EastEnders set have been slammed by parliament, after it was revealed that the renovation is £27million over budget! The project – codenamed ‘E20’ after Walford’s postcode – includes a complete rebuild of EastEnders’ iconic set, as well as an extension of production facilities at the soap’s home in Hertfordshire. But MPs are furious that the whole thing is costing way more than the £59.7million initially budgeted, and will take an extra five years to complete. One of the reasons for the delay was that some negotiations took six months longer than planned, partly because of discussions about what bricks to use for the set! The overspend is set to come at “significant extra cost to licence-fee payers,” according to the Public Accounts…
