It’s all in the line of duty for officers from the La Vista Police Department—they’re now finding forever homes for shelter dogs by making them “K-9s for a Day.” In partnership with the Nebraska Humane Society (nehumanesociety.org), the program pairs an officer with a shelter dog for a ride-along as they visit schools and businesses on their daily patrol. “It gets the dogs visibility so they can be adopted,” says Chief Bob Lausten, 56.
