EAR THIS!
Q: Hi Dr Jo, I’ve just got a new puppy — a Cocker Spaniel, to be precise. She’s gorgeous and fits into our family so well. When we purchased her, the breeder warned us that we needed to keep her ears clean, but I’m not entirely sure what that entails. Do you have any tips or advice? Beatrix, via email
A: Dear Beatrix. Congratulations on the new puppy; Cocker Spaniels are wonderful dogs. They are loving, loyal and fun family dogs. However, their big floppy, hairy, heavy ears can certainly lead to a great many problems, such as smelly yeast and bacterial infections. So yes, they need to be regularly cleaned and maintained.
