With vaccination rates hitting a wall and boosters plateauing in effectiveness, getting lifesaving pills to vulnerable people made ill by COVID-19 is the single most critical strategic step to allow society to return to a new normal. The goal is clearly articulated in President Biden’s Test to Treat plan. Now we need to make this plan work for all Americans by moving it to the homes of those who are sick. A federal Test to Treat initiative on the scale of our vaccination effort could achieve, we estimate, at least a 50% sustained decrease in both national mortality and hospitalizations. IN 2014, NADIA MURAD’S HOMETOWN of Kocho, Iraq, was captured by the Islamic State. Several members of her family were killed, and she, along with other women and girls from the town, were abducted and held as sex slaves. After months in captivity, Murad escaped and found refuge in Germany. She has since dedicated herself to raising awareness about the use of rape and sexual violence against women and children as a weapon of war, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts.
