editor's note

Over the past few years, we have celebrated artisans, craftsman and companies amid our jam-packed schedules: traveling to tradeshows, finishing custom orders, enduring machinery malfunctions, dealing with supply delays, practicing patience when the internet was down, rethinking business practices due to tariffs, coping with the loss of colleagues, and much more. DANNA BURNS-SHAW Danna Burns-Shaw is the CEO of her family’s 144 year old western retail and manufacturing business, Burns Since 1876. In her 20’s, Danna’s father Dan passed away leaving the business to her and her mother Donna. Together the two of them worked hard to keep the business thriving. Danna played a big role in her community during this time in her life, volunteering her time and energy to projects that would benefit the small town. She, along with a team of other community members, sought funding to build the Blackhawk Arena, a facility that has become an economic success in the small mining town of Salina, Utah where Burns Saddlery, her company’s manufacturing and horseman retail store is located. Twenty years ago Danna and her husband Scott began taking…

Wolverine World Wide Inc. begins cleanup at tannery, House Street disposal sites KENT COUNTY, Mich. (November 25, 2019) – Wolverine World Wide Inc. recently began a short-term cleanup at the Wolverine and the House Street Disposal sites in Kent County. The Tannery is located at the northern end of the downtown district of the city of Rockford, and the House Street Disposal Area is on House Street in Plainfield Township. This short-term cleanup, or time-critical removal action, is the result of a settlement agreement between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Wolverine. This removal action is not a final remedy for the site, but it’s a very important step toward stabilizing the site and addressing the threat it poses to human health and the environment. EPA will review and approve Wolverine’s removal…
