BRIONVEGA RADIOFONOGRAFO RR226 FO-ST Back in 2016, a 1960s turntable once belonging to David Bowie sold at auction for £257,000. That turntable was a Brionvega Radiofonografo RR126, created by Italian geniuses Achille and Pier Castiglioni. Now, to mark the 100th anniversary of Achille’s birth, a special edition of that iconic music system has been launched, complete with the original machine’s iconic ‘smiley face’ (made up of controls for the record player, radio and volume). The Radiofonografo RR226 FO-ST comes in white, orange and red, with only 100 of each colour available for purchase – all will be numbered and made using the original Italian cabinet design. Each will feature a premium Pro-Ject turntable with Ortofon cartridge, an AM/FM radio and cool modular speakers that can be moved up or down to…

editor’s letter

After three years of steering the good ship T3 around the Caribbean of tech, raiding companies for their finest wares, I’m giving up the wheel. I’m not leaving T3 – you’ll still see me across the page on our little Most Wanted wall – but I won’t be editing the magazine any more. I’m handing over the reins (I don’t know why this ship has reins, let alone reins and a wheel, but stay with me here) to Josh, who’s already helped make this very issue happen, so you’re in safe hands. I actually started here immediately after 2017’s Hot 100 issue, so to end here feels like a very neat finish to the circle. The Hot 100 is always one of the most fun and frantic issues to pull together…

t3’s mission

Our mission is to bring you the clearest recommendations we can – and that means a great deal of hard work happens before a product even reaches our pages! Because we only feature products the T3 team would happily use ourselves, we end up discarding a significant number of options in each category before settling on a final shortlist to review. We select only the best of the best for our Tested section; the gear we know you’ll want to seriously consider purchasing. And that should mean an end to you having to undertake hours of painstaking research and product comparisons. You won’t see any duff products, but you will come away with clarity on which one is the best in its category or for a specific task: our awards badges (see…

1 HUAWEI MATE XS • £2,100 (approx.), consumer.huawei.com If you looked on in envy as Huawei launched its beautiful folding 5G phone the Mate X in China last year, we have some good news for you. A second edition of the handset, called the Xs, is coming to Europe – and it’s even better than the original. Okay, in many ways it’s the same: there are still two exterior OLED screens – 6.6 inches at the front and 6.4 inches at the back – that fold out to make a 5.4mm-thick, almost-square eight-inch tablet; and also present and correct is the Mate X’s quad camera set-up (40MP wide-angle, 16MP ultra-wide-angle, 8MP telephoto, TOF lens), designed in conjunction with Leica. However, Huawei has improved the Falcon Wing hinge, making it more robust and…
