My first car was a VW Citi Golf Citi.com 1,4i: the special edition with the bucket seats, 14-inch alloy wheels and golf-ball gearknob. I vividly remember the day I got it; I was in grade 12. We were returning from a rugby game by bus. As we pulled up to my high school’s entrance, I spotted my dad next to a dark blue Citi Golf. EV ISSUES Just about every motoring magazine across the globe has enthused about EVs for some time. In particular, car manufacturers have promised to satisfy public demand for vehicles driven by clean energy. However, the reality is not in sync with the overwhelming clamour for EVs from the authorities. Journalists, almost without exception, have been indulging in theoretics and yet it is clear the praxis does not follow. Little urban commuters might be fine if you recharge them at home but South Africa is a big country and we love the outdoors. This means long trips.
