island dates not to miss

For the Caribbean, fall signals lots to do in and on the waters – fish fry, conch, sailing and sun. Holiday lights, parades and Christmas pageants close the old year and welcome the New Year. Be sure to check websites for updates since sometimes things can follow the proverbial “island time.” After all, what’s the hurry when there is so much to do or not to do, just sit back and enjoy. OCTOBER Arms and legs are in sync as athletes glide through the water at the Jamaica International Synchronized Swimming Championships, October 2 – 4 www.synchrostars.com. In the Exumas, the waters attract the fishermen where the big catch wins prizes and there are fish dishes galore on shore for everyone at the Fishy Fest Hand Line & Lion Fish Tournament, October…

letter from the publisher

Hello, Welcome back...I know I always tell you I won’t keep you long on this page but this time I really mean it! There’s so much that we packed into this issue. You won’t be able to take your eyes off of the gorgeous images that Andrew shot in Jamaica and in Cancun. The villa feature brings into focus the luxurious side of travel; in the most laid back way. Have a look inside the private homes of Butch Stewart, the Chairman of Sandals Resorts. It’s going to blow your mind and the best part is that you can stay there as well. Ava gives you all the details as she recounts her time at each of them. While on the same island, Andrew spends a few days unearthing Negril’s newest…

just wanna have… fun, sun and luxury

This sounds like the opening to a classic bar-joke but here’s what you get when you put a lawyer, a PR executive and an Editor on an all-girls getaway. It had been way too long since our Editor-In-Chief took a break. Work is fun, so it often disguises itself as a getaway, but alas ‘tis not a true getaway unless you can unplug, unwind and be completely at ease. So when a sudden and unusual hole in her schedule opened up, she grabbed a bag, picked up her phone and called 2 girlfriends. 48-hours later, they were off to the luxury enclave called Le Blanc Spa Resort. What ensued was nothing short of a fabulous weekend. Not being able to leave ALL her work behind; it was decided that this…

Director of Photography Andrew Innerarity It's all about triggering emotion via imagery. When I convey the very essence of a situation with a single photograph, then I am complete, because the viewer understands the more than the moment, they know the situation. Features Editor Ava Rosales You can take the girl out of the island, but you can t take the island out of the girl. Creative Director Camila Lavori Beach chic is an absolute must in the Caribbean. You want to look effortless and relaxed yet put together at the same time. Fortunately, that doesn't require much when most days are spent enjoying the gorgeous beaches. For me, it's all about a great bikini, gold strappy sandals, and a silk print tunic. Top it off with a floppy sun hat and I'm all set! and others... Jessie Rodriguez and…

anguilla's blue shades

It’s been a few years since I visited Anguilla and I am happy to report that it’s still sophisticated, sexy, laid-back and oh-so blue. Private jet service was not on the itinerary this trip, as I was flying from Los Angeles. One of the most fun-filled parts of the journey is after landing in St. Maarten, your best option when flying commercially, you get a lovely boat ride across to Anguilla. Here’s where I separated myself from the pack. There is a routine ferry service that takes visitors and locals back and forth, but I opted for a private boat transfer. It’s the little things that enhance the experience and Calypso Charters gave a smooth transition from the Dutch island’s airport to the ferry terminal in Anguilla. Arriving by sea,…
