We’re moving towards the midpoint of the year and by now many of us will have been to more places than we care to remember. Some trips will have gone well, some not so well, and the vast majority will be, well, forgettable. Sometimes I have to go back to my notes or even my diary to work out where I was on a particular day in the previous month, so while I try to remember as much as possible, it’s undoubtedly true that if you travel all the time, much of what happens is no more memorable than another day in the office. new-look lounges for ba and star alliance

BRITISH AIRWAYS HAS OPENED its revamped Club lounge at New York JFK’s Terminal 7. It has a bar in partnership with Brewdog and a self-service Quaich Bar in partnership with the Craigellachie hotel in Speyside. It is part of a £52 million investment in the terminal. Star Alliance has also unveiled a new-look lounge at Paris Charles de Gaulle, featuring a garden terrace, quiet working areas and more power sockets. QATAR AIRWAYS IS MAKING a number of enhancements to its in-flight economy dining, including larger meal portions and a wider range of snacks. The newly branded “Quisine” will be rolled out across the airline’s network, starting with Brussels, Cardiff, Gothenburg, Moscow and St Petersburg. Long-haul passengers will get redesigned menu cards with a service timeline, and pre-dinner sparkling wine and cocktail snacks.…

hotel chains branch out

MARRIOTT IS EXPANDING INTO HOME RENTALS, offering an initial 2,000 properties in 100 destinations across Europe, the US, the Caribbean and Latin America. Homes and Villas by Marriott International is an extension of its Tribute Portfolio Homes pilot, which has been running since last year. Marriott Bonvoy members can earn points at the same ratio as those staying at its hotels. Meanwhile, Accor has unveiled plans to open 1,200 co-working spaces across Europe in the next three years. Marketed under its Wojo brand – which was until recently known as Nextdoor – the venues will span the group’s economy, midscale and luxury segments and range from small Wojo Spots to large Wojo Sites with meeting rooms, kitchens and offices.…

etihad refreshes narrow-body economy

ETIHAD HAS ANNOUNCED A REFIT of its A320 and A321 aircraft that will see seatback screens in economy replaced by a holder for personal devices and wireless IFE streaming technology. The new “extra-spatial design” seat will be on 23 aircraft by August. Etihad says it will provide more legroom, fast-charging USB points and more than 300 hours of free IFE content for streaming, while “premium TV programming” and movies will be available via an app (picture below). The carrier’s narrow-body A320s and A321s are used on routes of up to five hours; seatback screens will remain standard in economy on the wide-bodied aircraft. The airline is also refreshing soft products on all economy flights, including new blankets, pillows, headrest covers and a revamped dining service with larger main course portions.…
