back on track

The world is, arguably, not yet “back on track.” But for sure, DAMAN is back. We’ve never been completely gone, of course, and we’ve actually expanded quite a bit online; but more on that later. For now, you have in your hands a bona fide printed issue of DAMAN, and you can expect much of the same for the remainder of 2020 and beyond. Speaking of coming back, in this issue we’re also welcoming back a familiar face for our cover. Tom Ellis of “Lucifer” fame is here to share new insight into his popular TV series along with stories from his life during quarantine and his views on current events. Also sharing his worldview is American actor Nolan Gould. Other than that, we have stories from Henry Zaga who is…

rebel rebel

Let out your inner rebel with the unruly vibes of a leather jacket. Synonymous with punks, pilots, motorcycles and even Marlon Brando, you can say that leather jackets are the “bad boys” of outerwear. No well-curated wardrobe is complete without one. A good leather jacket will go a long way and it’ll be one of the few long-term relationships you’ll have in fashion. The versatility of a leather jacket can take you from appearing semi-formal to looking absolutely casual in seconds. For the latter, try to think outside the box and pick a hooded leather jacket then pair it with a simple T-shirt and cargo pants to add a more relaxed touch. As for your go-to color, black has always been the best pick to add a hint of mystery…

rebel rider

There’s always the smallest hint of attitude when it comes to leather pieces. Expressive and often rebellious, leather outfits are not for everybody. Or everywhere—heat and humidity can turn the fanciest leather look into pure torture. That being said, it’s hard to beat the extra vibes of Fendi’s head-to-toe leather look, or Dolce & Gabbana’s leather pants. More pared down styles like Alexander McQueen’s red quilted fabric on leather or Valentino’s textured outers are perhaps even more approachable.…

miami heat

For its Pre-Fall 2020 campaign, Dior Men takes inspiration from its Miami fashion show with psychedelic pictorial wavers and the letters making up “Dior” unfold in black and white as the backdrop of the campaign. This design echoes the one created by Shawn Stussy for the brand’s Pre-Fall 2020 collection. The campaign was lensed by Steven Meisel. Ludwig Wilsdorf, Thatcher Thornton, Jecardi Skyes, Issa Naciri and Max Wetcher modeled the selected looks for the campaign. The collection itself draws inspiration from a wide range of styles and eras, but the main focus is the eye-catching patterns and colors. The campaign succeeds in translating a runway show into a series of still images and the idea of Miami and Dior’s modern vision enhanced by Stussy’s graphic identity.…

a contemporary mindset

Kris Van Assche consistently intensifies Berluti’s take on its heritage, transposing the brand’s shoemaking expertise to tailoring. This is the second fall/winter collection by Van Assche for Berluti, and for the campaign, he portrays a conversation between contrasts, old and new and marrying bourgeois and rebel styles. The fall/winter 2020 campaign was shot by London-based photographer Julien Martinez Leclerc. With black sands and the sea as the background, models Jun Young Hwang, Lucas EL Bali, Olaniyan Olamijuwon and Tobias Dionisi showcased the highlights of the collection and captured it in a unique distortion. The images definitely fit Assche’s vision for a progressive future for Berluti.…

under the sky

Italian house Fendi collaborates with Los Angeles visual artist Joshua Vides for its Pre-Fall 2020 collection called “California Sky.” To complete the experience of the collection, Fendi has also launched its Pre-Fall 2020 campaign. To that end, photographer Matt set his models against various architectural elements of Los Angeles’ sprawl. The juxtaposition between Vide’s catchy black and white iconography, the lighting and the line of the background is brought to life by models Niko Traubman, Faith Lynch and Ajani Russel. The trio exudes positive vibes as they take to the streets for an evening out. Fendi showed that whether in Rome or Los Angeles, they know how to have fun.…
