Andy Sturgeon’s garden is one of the hotly anticipated gardens at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, page 99. Discovering a new nursery is one of life’s pleasures. This issue of Gardens Illustrated includes a guide to 100 of the best independent nurseries in the UK today. From bulbs to alpine plants to trees, I hope it will inspire you to visit somewhere new this year.Many of the nurseries included grow their plants on site or source them locally. Jinny Blom is an eclectic designer whose gardens include a Chelsea gold-winning show garden for Prince Harry, a rugged, naturalistic estate in Scotland, a wildlife-focussed retreat in Kenya and romantic Cotswold manor house gardens. Her recent book The Thoughtful Gardener called for a more intelligent approach to garden design. Mark Straver and Robin Wallis set up Hortus Loci in 2011.
