Meghan's Style

a modern fairy tale begins

At approximately 11.55am on 19 May 2018, the world watched in awe as Meghan Markle stepped elegantly out of a burgundy Rolls-Royce in front of St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Gathering the front of her pristine Givenchy gown, she carefully climbed the famous steps, making her way towards her waiting groom. She might have been the most watched woman on the planet, but in that pivotal moment Meghan exhibited incredible poise and composure. Dressed to perfection in her exquisite gown, she was finally about to marry her prince – this was the culmination of a very modern fairy-tale romance. Since she burst onto the scene as Prince Harry’s new love interest in July 2016, we’ve watched Meghan transform from a Hollywood starlet into a fully fledged Duchess and fashion icon. It’s a…

meghan’s fresh fashion perspective

From the moment it emerged that Prince Harry was dating Meghan, there was a sense that this was no regular royal romance. And from the second the couple were first pictured together, at the Invictus Games in September 2017, they started ripping up the rule book with their open displays of affection. Whether they are clasping hands at public events, guiding one another with a hand gently placed on the back or even stealing a quick kiss, Meghan and Harry have no qualms about showing the world they are in love. It’s a marked departure from the more reserved behaviour we often see from royal couples, but their open adoration speaks volumes about their determination to do this their way. Throughout their relationship, Meghan has echoed this refreshing nonconformism with her wardrobe.…

who pays for meghan’s clothes?

Inevitably, high fashion comes at a high price – the Mail Online valued Meghan’s Commonwealth tour wardrobe at an estimated £117,934. So, who foots the bill for Meghan’s incredible clothes? During her Suits days, the successful actress may well have been lent or even gifted clothes by designers, eager to see their creations grace her curves. However, the royal family are said to be unable to accept fashion freebies, leading to speculation that Meghan’s official wardrobe may now be partly funded by the Duchy of Cornwall Estate. According to Tatler.com, Prince Charles is expected to use the income from his estate to cover the cost of Meghan, Kate, Harry and William’s working attire. But let’s not forget that Meghan also had significant earning power prior to marrying Harry, so she has her own…

a stellar style cv

Since she first hit our screens in Suits, we’ve watched Meghan’s instinctive ability to work an outfit evolve into the signature style we are so familiar with today. Plunging necklines and minis have been replaced by sophisticated skirts, lust-worthy coats and dazzling haute couture gowns. When it comes to fashion know-how, there’s little doubt the Duchess mixes in the right circles. She counts designers Roland Mouret, Misha Nonoo, Clare Waight Keller and Victoria Beckham amongst her friends, and looks incredible whenever she steps out in their creations. And over the last few years we’ve been able to take a front-row seat and enjoy watching as she’s explored a multitude of other designers, often supporting Canadian creatives and smaller brands alongside the heavy-hitters. We’ve seen her look stunning in Givenchy, Carolina Herrera, Amanda…

meghan’s ethical style

She left acting to focus on philanthropy, and Meghan cleverly uses fashion to support causes close to her heart. Her gold-plated Pippa Small bangles are made by craftsmen from a charitable organisation called the Turquoise Mountain Foundation. Likewise, during the royal tour in Australia, she wore jeans by Outland, an ethical denim label that employs female victims of people trafficking. Meghan has used fashion to champion sustainability, too. The black Rothy flats she wore in Australia were made from recycled plastic water bottles, and she rocked a striped dress from Reformation. The sustainable brand uses leftover fabric from other designers, diverting it away from landfill.…
