Yasmine Gateau, ILLUSTRATOR FEELING GOOD, PAGE 55 A barbecue isn’t complete without…friends, sun, a glass of wine, and a carefree atmosphere. My favorite light bite at this time of year is…a Greek salad on a Greek island! My best summer reading experience was…The Invention of Morel by Adolfo Bioy Casares, a little masterpiece of strangeness. Lori Gottlieb WRITER “THE SECRET LIVES OF THERAPISTS,” PAGE 55 The ideal place to dine alfresco is…on the deck of a restaurant that overlooks the beach, where I can listen to the water. Makes 2 cocktails, plus extra infused vodka 1 large pineapple2 lemongrass stalks, root ends trimmed and outer leaves reserved…

q what’s your go-to cookout dish?

No summer gathering is complete without my scotcheroo bars. The recipe involves warming sugar and corn syrup in a pot over low heat with peanut butter. Then you add Rice Krispies, transfer the mixture to a pan, and melt butterscotch and chocolate chips to spread over top. Let it cool, and once it’s firm, cut it into pieces to share. And if the sun melts the treats and makes a mess? Licking your fingers clean is part of the deliciousness! CONNIE PELTON Waunakee, Wisconsin Sweet and tangy calico beans, my aunt’s recipe. I use canned molasses-and-pork baked beans, lima beans, and kidney beans with bacon, ground beef, and onion. Then I stir in catsup, brown sugar, mustard, and vinegar. It can be made in a slow cooker or the oven. It’s always…
