When I was growing up, we had technology – but it didn’t rule our lives. No one had their own cellphone, and the only way to contact a friend was to phone their family’s landline and speak to their mom or dad first. If you weren’t home, or if you missed the call, you simply weren’t reachable. There was a freedom in that. We were unplugged and present. We played outside, we got bored, we created things from scratch. I remember painting rocks, baking cupcakes, and dreaming up ways to entertain myself. That boredom was a gift.
