is winter really the best time to travel?

Whenever you talk about winter and RV travel, people think about heading north for warmer climates. When you stop and think about it, is winter really all that bad? In fact, is travelling in winter better than travelling in the height of summer? I, for one, like winter because at least I can put on warmer clothing to be comfortable. Our caravans have reverse cycle air conditioning and gas or diesel heating, which makes cold weather caravanning far better than it was 20 years ago. I’m not a fan of high humidity and high heat because it’s very hard to get comfortable – I find it’s much easier to prepare for cold weather than it is for excessively hot weather. Many people tend to feel weakened by continuous hot and steamy…

settlers beach

Hi Fred, We’ve just spent a couple of nights at beautiful Settlers Beach near Roebourne in WA. There are only four campsites at present, which have only just been opened up for camping - we were the sixth campers! You must be fully self-contained with no grey water on the ground, and there are no amenities at all. $10 a night with a two night maximum stay. There are the most beautiful views and walks! The caretaker, Andrew, is very friendly and helpful, and the town itself has been lovingly restored with many buildings open for viewing, and there’s a lovely café and wharf. It’s been one of our best experiences! Regards, Sandra and Peter…

BRANXTON OVAL Hi Caravan and Motorhome on Tour, I’m just reading through some of my magazines and noticed a review of Branxton Oval in issue 250. I just thought I’d let you know that we camped there in June 2018 and it was spotlessly clean - the camping area and the toilets. Also camping is not confined to the fence line any more, but a much larger area beside the oval. We pulled up right beside a covered picnic table so we didn’t even have to put out our awning. The couple next to us had just done a few loads of washing and allowed their grey water to flow freely onto the grass. They then strung up three lines between the trees to hang out their washing, taking up about four…

country to coast

Our trip started in Moree, NSW, when we met up with old friends from the Australian Caravan Club. They really know how to enjoy themselves, and camaraderie was buoyant! It just so happened that they were having Christmas in July, and we were warmly invited to share the fun. We quickly learned the rules of the game and were amazed by how much food they had cooked – there was even a giant plum pudding! I suppose if you’re going to do something then just do it right, and that’s what they did. It was no accident the ‘Northern Bushwackers’ had come to Moree, because minutes away from their caravans were inviting thermal pools, which are widely acclaimed to relieve those winter aches and pains. There were three pools with the…
