The ever-evolving complex of pits east of the village of Baston and north-east of Langtoft are privately owned and largely concealed from public view.
However, some very juicy areas are easily viewed from roadsides. Chief among these are the twin pits on either side of Cross Road at the T-junction with Baston Outgang Road. Last year, this pair of pits alone produced Caspian Tern, Long-tailed Duck, Common Scoter, waders including multiple Knot, Turnstone, Bar-tailed Godwit and Wood Sandpiper; plus Bittern, and Mediterranean and Little Gulls. Also, in the last year, a pair of Ravens have been favouring this small area. Expect Barn Owls, flocks of Red-crested Pochards and frequent visits from Peregrine, Merlin and Hobby, depending on the season.
