Bill Constantine | Oranjezicht I WAS disappointed, reading Arn Franzsen’s letter, “Beware, nature will certainly push back” , Cape Times, June 15, which is in response to my earlier letter, faulting Mr Farouk Araie, for his sensational hyperbole, in stating that Covid-19 is Mother Nature’s retribution for mankind polluting the oceans, producing weapons of war, raising and killing animals for their meat, etc.
I know Mr Franzsen only through his letters to the Cape Times, which I’ve always found to be thoughtful, cogent and well-written. But in this case – just as with Mr Araie – he’s missed the point and his comment is off the mark. There is plenty of evidence of nature pushing back, as a result of, for example, man’s wasteful, all-consuming depletion of the ocean’s resources…
