Is the domestic racing scene in the midst of a crisis? There are definitely more than a few signs that point to this being the case. With membership, events, and competition entries for road and TT all down, it’s a worrying time for national federations. Then there’s the state of the roads, increasing levels of traffic, higher costs, admin and more besides.
When I started riding, it was primarily to race and so I immediately joined a club. This was pre-Strava, pre-WhatsApp, pre-Zwift, even pre-text messaging. A club was how you got into the sport, met other cyclists, learned about riding, and arranged to go on rides or to races.
