Marie Claire is today's magazine for the fashion minded woman. It reflects all areas of the reader's life, providing the time-pressed woman with a mix of information. Marie Claire remains unsurpassed as the best source for beauty advice.
Our inimitable editor in chief, Sally Holmes, went on maternity leave in February, just as Team Marie Claire was in the thick of making this magazine. (She and her family are healthy and happy—thanks for asking!) Whenever I've told people I'm filling in for Sally during this process, “How long will she be out?” has been the without-fail reaction. It got me thinking about time: How much is needed to create something new; what can be accomplished in so little. And more importantly, how we spend it. Most media these days is fast. Sixty-second reels. Two-hundred-eighty character tweets your eyes can scan in seconds. We flick through newsfeeds and alerts as we wait in line at the coffee shop or ride the elevator to our hybrid office, hardly (let's be…
Fueguia 1833 Rosa de la Patagonia The Milan-based brand's latest fragrance is the perfect marriage of sweet-smelling rose and musky, oaky scents. I'm a rose fragrance aficionado, with an entire shelf dedicated to the classic scent. But I also love musky, oaky notes, and I've even dabbled in men's cologne. It can be tricky balancing these preferences, so when I discovered that Fueguia 1833's Rosa de la Patagonia ($812) set out to do just that, I was over the moon. Rosa de la Patagonia is a tribute to the Mountains of Argentinian Patagonia, where the brand's founder, Julian Bedel, was born and raised. The scent has oud top notes with a smoky, woody base that perfectly mixes with charcoal and rose, leaving a subtle, musky floral fragrance designed to conjure…
Fresh from starring as Vanessa in the movie adaptation of In the Heights, and as Sam Carpenter in Scream, Melissa Barrera is on quite the star-making trajectory. This year, she adds two new movies to her résumé: Carmen, directed by Benjamin Millepied, and Bed Rest, a supernatural thriller, which she's producing, as well. “I also have a limited series for Netflix coming out [this summer] called Keep Breathing, which was one of the hardest projects I've ever worked on,” she says. No matter the role, Barrera is a total beauty icon. So it comes as no surprise she also recently landed a job as a Clinique brand ambassador. Here, she tells us how she manages to look and feel her best while leading such a busy life. Rise and Shine…
Daniela Botero is a selfproclaimed superwoman, and we don't disagree. You probably recognize her from J Balvin's Bobo music video–one of a dozen acting credits to her name—or maybe Instagram or a magazine cover. She's got two more big projects in the works— a movie filming in Mexico and a TV show for a major streaming platform. Oh, and there's also the organic skincare line she's on the verge of launching, called Identity Beauty. “I'm doing this with my business partner, and I have an investor, and of course, my fiancé, who is in the beauty industry—he's helping develop the products,” she says. Botero and said fiancé, BeautyHealth executive chairman Brent Saunders, live in Miami with Botero's 10-year-old daughter, Ilana, who is a dedicated dancer. With days so jam-packed, it's…

After graduating from high school, Katini Yamaoka considered her next steps. “My dad was a diplomat and a human rights leader and was such an inspiration to me,” she says. “He had such a big heart to really help change Africa. I thought maybe I'd become the next female president of Ghana or something like that, so I enrolled in political science.” Ultimately, Yamaoka pursued a successful singing career, performing around the world and eventually opening for artists like Normani and 21 Savage. But in 2020, when the pandemic hit and shuttered parts of the music industry, she decided to follow yet another passion: skincare and beauty. Yamaoka's interest in beauty started when she was a teen, when adolescence led to acne, which left her with discoloration and scarring. “Especially…
