THIS MONTH’S WINNER Kara Kreis, from Williamstown, Vic, for her Rainbow of Stars cushion project: “As soon as I saw this cushion by Roslyn Russell (December 2015/Vol 16 No 12), I knew I just had to make it! The colours and layout really appealed to me, and it got me to use the low-volume prints in my stash. The other fabrics were all from my scraps. I’ve made a few of Roslyn’s projects from tutorials on her blog and found the instructions for this cushion to be very clear. Her method for cutting multiple half-square triangle blocks was a new one for me and a great timesaver. This cushion is now living very happily on my couch.” Congratulations to Kara for her great effort. As the winner this month, she will be receiving…

suck it and see! CROCHET FOR DUMMIES No, don’t take offence – they are actually for baby dummies! They are one of Patons Crochet Cuties patterns. Intermediate-level crocheters can whip these up in no time (in Regal 4ply cotton) so that they can be pinned to the child’s clothing. No more comforters dropped on the street. The pattern book is available from your favourite craft outlet, or contact Patons for your nearest stockist – call 1800 337 032 or visitwww.patonsyarns.com.au. FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE Okay, so a few crocheted acorns aren’t what you’d call life’s essentials, but boy, do they have charm. And a rainbow collection of them will speak volumes about your handmade style and creativity. Annemarie, from annemarieshaakblog.blogspot.nl, is responsible for ‘growing’ this little batch. (They are her interpretation of an…

MEGAN NEDDS When you look at this cheetah in mid-chase, you’re struck by its realism. You’re taken along on its hunt for prey – its eye fixed on its quarry, its posture streamlined and its movement sleek and effortless. Similarly, a quick glance at the needle-felted foxes has you caught up in their play. You are right there with the little calf as it finds its feet for the first time. The bunny, you’d swear, had just popped up from its warren and was orienting itself before hopping off to rabbity adventures, all miraculously perfect with its spotted coat, long, listening ears and stretch of whiskers. Now consider that their creator, Megan Nedds, fashions these immaculate animal representations into mere 7-12in forms. They might be small but they are absolutely, positively perfectly formed.…

Scrap by the yard The owner of this workroom was so chuffed with her patchwork wall that she decided to mirror the effect in the design of her sewing-machine cover. Onto a background of red-and-white polka dots, she added simple patchwork squares. You’ll also notice that strips of coordinating fabric have been sewn together then cut into a circle to make a seat pad. The result of these small decorative additions is that the elements of the room marry perfectly, carrying the creative ideas from one side of the space to the other. A patched work of art! Patch as patch can Here’s a cute idea using paper offcuts and wallpaper samples to make a patchwork wall. Our thought is: if you can do this with paper, you can do it with fabric…
