JDI develops fingerprint sensor Japan Display Inc. announced that they have developed a new fingerprint sensor utilising LCD panel technology. The sensor can be used for smartphones, door phones and credit cards for ID recognition. The sensor, measuring 8x8mm is developed utilising the capacitive touch sensor technology, known as Pixel Eyes. It detects the change in the amount of static electricity produced when the finger touches the sensor. The subtle change in the static electricity due to the unevenness of a fingerprint of the registered person is recognised by the sensor. The transparent fingerprint sensor can be incorporated on display panels, thus expanding the range of applications while improving security. Canon posts increased profits and sales Canon Inc. announced its consolidated financial results for Fiscal 2017 that ended on 31st Dec 2017, reporting 44.8% year-on-year gain in operational profits from 331.5 billion yen to 4,080 billion yen on total sales i.e. 19.9% increase. Net profits rose from 60.6 to 241.9 billion yen. For the first time in four years there were increased profits on increased sales. The good results of the company were due to recovered sales in conventional segments of their digital cameras and office machines. The Imaging System division increased their sales by 5.3% to 703 billion yen and inkjet printers sales had an increase of 1.4% to 336 billion yen. Canon launches Image Square 3.0 Canon India has announced the launch of a Gen-Z version of its retail outlet, Canon Image Square (CIS) 3.0 in India. The latest version of the Image Square offers full-fledged customer experience, right from the input to the output. The retail outlet lets the customer get familiar with cameras and provides them a complete click-to-print experience with Canon’s new-age technologies and software.
