Panasonic develops 8K CMOS Sensor Tech Panasonic Corp. has developed a new CMOS image sensor technology which can realise high-resolution of 8K at 60ps high-speed frame rate readout capable of capturing blur-less images via global-shutter function, utilising organic thin-film technology. The new image sensor has a stacked structure with a separate layer for the organic film for converting analog signals to electric signals and a circuit layer of charge storage and readout signals mounting on newly-developed noise cancelling technology. This organic sensor can control voltage to add on organic film with the global shutter function. Olympus posts increased sales and profits Olympus announced its financial results from April to December, 2017 with favourable sales. The imaging sector posted sales of 47.31 yen, up 1.1 percent over the previous year and reported an operational profit of 1.49 billion yen, up 76.9 percent year on year. The sale of mirrorless cameras rose 7% to 33.6 billion yen or 330,000 units due to the OM-D-E-M1 Mark II. On the other hand sales of compact models dropped by 19% to 6.9 billion yen or 210,000 units due to mainly the company trimming the line-up and overall market shrink. Smartphone decline in 2017 by 0.1% introduced its first iPhone. Samsung Electronic kept the top position with 21.6% share followed by Apple with 14.7%. Fujifilm launches X-H1, announces Cine lenses Fujifilm India has launched its new X-series mirrorless camera, the X-H1, featuring a robust body and 5-axis in-body image stabilisation. The camera, which is aimed at video professionals, also features flicker reduction mode and the new Eterna film simulation mode, which is ideal for shooting movies. The X-H1 will also be compatible with the MKX18-55mm T2.9 and MKX50-135mm T2.9 professional cinema lenses. These lenses are expected to be released in May 2018. The 5-axis in-body image stabilization, a first in an X-series camera, harnesses three axial accelerometers, three axial Gyro sensors, and a specially developed dual-processor. Combined, this achieves the high speed of approximately 10,000 calculations per second. A new spring mechanism ensures reduced micro-vibrations caused by operation of the mechanical shutter.
