One thing disappointing about the new breed of full-frame mirrorless cameras is the enormous size of the lenses, which in most cases are not only more expensive but significantly larger than their D-SLR counterparts. After all, wasn’t mirrorless supposed to lead to lighter and smaller camera bodies and lenses? There is indeed an explanation. The discussion that I had with a technical person from a leading manufacturer indicated that mirrorless lenses were now following the ‘German’ style of lens design whereby both the centre and the edges of the lenses were equally sharp. Earlier, more emphasis was given to the centre of the image. The end result is that a lens requires more elements to achieve that level of sharpness. Fujifilm Launches GFX 50R Mirrorless Fujifilm India has announced the launch of its rangefinderstyle GFX 50R medium format mirrorless camera which features the Fujifilm G Format (medium format, 43.8 x 32.9 mm) image sensor that is approximately 1.7 times the size of a full-frame 35 mm image sensor commonly in use. The GFX 50R is equipped with a 51.4 MP medium format CMOS sensor and an X-Processor Pro image processing engine. It weighs approximately 145 g less and is 25 mm thinner than the Fujifilm GFX 50S. The GFX 50R is also the first camera in the GFX system to feature Bluetooth compatibility. In India, the camera body is available at a price of Rs.369,999.
