I have been working as a couples portrait photographer for over fifteen years. First in Washington D.C. and now in Paris, France. Focus issues when you’re shooting portraits can be surprisingly common. In this expert guide I’ll look at some of the reasons why your portraits might not be tack sharp and show you how to correct the problem. Let’s get started! 1. MAKE SURE YOUR GEAR IS CLEAN A simple tip to start with but one of the reasons you might be having problems getting sharp focus is a dirty lens. Dust or dirt on your lens can confuse the camera’s autofocus system and even cause the camera to focus on those specks of dust.
