Reclaimed pieces include the old factory lights and machinist’s stools in the sunken dining area – the couple kept this area open, with glazed steel doors at either end, plus a huge up-and-over door. Eve Campbell grew up planning rooms in miniature. Inheriting the doll’s house built for her mother by her architect grandfather, she added her own layers of carpet and wallpaper to the furnishings her family had made for it over the years. At art school in Glasgow during her final year of textile design, she too considered studying architecture, attracted by the thought of designing full-size spaces for living in. Then she refined that interest into fabric hangings: “I was intrigued by the idea that you could use fabric to transform a wall instantly.” Each hanging is individually designed and printed, creating a one-off piece, like a painting.
