THE POWER OF THE AIRWAYS CLOUD At any given time of the day, there are approximately 10,000 airplanes soaring across our skies anywhere in the world. If we multiply that number by an average of 200 passengers per plane, that gives us a whooping figure of two million people looking down at those who are on the ground. The magnitude of commercial aviation is gigantic. We have become used to seeing, hearing, or even feeling small, medium, or super large airliners crossing the skies above us during any time of the day. But during Hurricane Irma’s passage across our beloved State of Florida, things changed, and we didn’t like it. Dear Airways, I hope this message will find you well, and that the temperature during summertime in Miami is not too hot! I wanted to thank you for your passion and dedication in aviation. The fact that you have put the Breitling DC-3 on the cover of the September 2017 issue is fantastic. I was a fellow subscriber back in 1995-1996 and always loved receiving Airways in the mailbox; I was eager to read it from cover to cover. 4 CUBANA (PLUS ULTRA LÍNEAS AÉREAS) AIRBUS A340-313X EC-MFA (MSN 212) Cubana (CU) has sub-leased this Airbus A340 from Spanish carrier Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas (PUE) for long-haul flights. PUE recently inked a codeshare agreement with Cubana to operate flights from Barcelona (BCN) to Havana (HAV). 5 JETSMART AIRBUS A320-232(WL) CC-AWA (MSN 7595) Chilean startup JetSMART began commercial service on July 25 with a flight from Santiago (SCL) to Calama (CJC). 7 CEIBA INTERCONTINENTAL BOEING 737-8FB(WL) CS-FAF (MSN 41159 · LN 4973) Ceiba Intercontinental (C2) has leased this Boeing 737-800s to TAP Portugal (TP) to cope with the demand of the summer holiday season. The aircraft, originally delivered in 2014, has all its C2 titles removed but keeps the colors of the Guinea Equatorial-based airline. 8 AIGLE AZUR AIRBUS A320-232 SX-ABX (MSN 427) Aigle Azur (ZI) has incorporated its 12th Airbus aircraft into its fleet. The plane came from defunct Greek charter carrier Aeolia Airlines (AOL), and had initially been delivered to Canada 3000 Airlines (2T) in 1994. 9 MONARCH AIRLINES BOEING 737-82R G-ZBAV (MSN 40874 · LN 3316) Monarch Airlines (ZB) has leased a 186-seat Boeing 737-800 to Turkey’S Pegasus Airlines (PC).
