On the morning of January 4, 2018, I received an email from our fellow photographer, Darryl Sarno, notifying me that John Wegg, the founder of this publication, had passed away in New Zealand. As soon as I could, I sent an email to John’s daughter, but got no reply. However, after reaching out to a few related friends, I learned the tragic news that he had been diagnosed with acute leukemia, which had taken all of his relatives by surprise. During the first 16 years of my life, I had 16 different surgeries, which included an artificial diaphragm, the untethering of my spinal cord, open-heart surgery and many oral operations.
