FLYING GIVES I have just stepped off from a Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-200 that took me on a very interesting ride from Southeastern Europe, across the Atlantic Ocean, and from the higher Caribbean to the northernmost metropolis in South America. My route for this interesting flight was the airline’s latest attempt to link Istanbul with two communist cities in America: Havana and Caracas. The airline launched the unusual, triangular route last year and, after calling it a success, it is increasing its frequencies from three-weekly flights to daily in the upcoming weeks. But what made it more exciting was the fact that I was bidding farewell to Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport, which is set to close its doors, forever, on October 29.
