AS I AM writing this, the Captain of our Boeing 737 has asked all Flight Attendants and passengers to remain seated because of unforeseen turbulent weather. I have been on hundreds of turbulent flights—both as a Pilot and a passenger—and I must admit that I enjoy turbulence. From the Pilot perspective, it is challenging to try and find different flight levels where the chop is mitigated. And, as a passenger, well, it just makes me laugh. However, looking at the nervous faces of a few passengers around me puts things into perspective. Pilots know a thing or two about turbulence—how to manage it, the plane’s limitations, and how to keep the passengers safe.
