CATHRYN ZHANG Cathryn is Belle’s new creative director. Describe your aesthetic? A simplified approach to textures, colours and motifs found in the landscape and tribal cultures. Drop in the unexpected and kooky and I’m done! Who/what have been some enduring creative influences? Elsa Schiaparelli’s mind, Yves Saint-Laurent’s 70s and 80s, Irving Penn’s discipline, Antonio López’s sass, Henri Matisse’s forms, Fabien Baron’s refinement. Where is home for you? Paper Bird, White Rabbit Gallery, Rozelle markets, Pazar – a local treasure, Chinatown, where no-frills dreams come true! Ultimate travel escape in 2019? Hopefully, a glimpse of southern Africa. What design items are you coveting now? An Eduardo…
