A fresh start as the snow melts, the sun shines brighter, and the days become longer. We put away our lighters for the fireplace, and we fold up and place those thick blankets back in the protective bags for another year. I, for one, am sad to see the cold disappear and the change of season, but I also don’t live where biting low temperatures literally freeze your nostrils closed when you take a breath. After a cold winter in many parts of the country, spring is the sign of new life and warm days ahead. In some areas, the snow is sti ll on the ground many weeks into spring, but in Southern California, where Heart of Hospitality is located, we have warm beach days throughout the year. It's a vacation destination for those trying to escape the bitter cold and biting wind that can literally freeze your nostrils together. We love being able to think outside the box, and we decided to bring our spring basket to the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean. The sea gulls joined us and brought lively conversation as the waves crashed against the rocks. The fresh sea air and the spray of salt made for an idyllic getaway…

Remember those days when people used to give away a May Basket? It's when people used to drop off baskets of flowers or small gifts to others and wanted to extend a warm thought of love to someone else. We do this with Happy Monday, and this month we gave away flowers wrapped in beautiful papers. We love scrapbooking papers with beautiful designs, and unfortunately, our days of actual scrapbooking are few and far between. So, we've repurposed those 12 x 12 pages by wrapping them around our flowers, securing it with a bow, and dropping them off as gifts of encouragement for others in our community. Everyone loves getting a surprise gift, and we have so much fun going through all those gorgeous pages!…

If you’re anything like I am you’re so ready for spring. For new, for growth, and for life again. Winter has come to a painfully slowwww end and we are now transitioning into warmth, and flowers. Taking that deep breath in as you walk outside and only need a light jacket. Dusting off those sandals, preparing yourself mentally for your first pedicure of the season where your nail tech looks at you with the judging “winter toes” eyes as she takes that callous scraper over your heel again. This time with her shoulder behind it. Every year you tell yourself you’ll do better at managing your toes and your unshaven leg hairs… we all know it’s a lie, but it makes you feel better, and honestly, isn’t that what matters…

We always teach that hospitality should be fun and easy. We always say to bring your very best and make each guest feel like the special person they are. After all, entertaining is about making others feel good and welcomed in your home (or wherever you may be hosting). There are so many resources now-a-days with social media platforms throwing out everything from recipes, decorating tips, and almost anything else you need for a party (our favorite go-to idea center is Pinterest). It’s hard to imagine that something could make your table come to life more beautifully than fresh cut flowers. When I moved to Southern California I fell in love with the LA flower market! The color and sweet aroma is lovely, but the hustle and bustle of the people is exhilarating! A vase, basket old tea pot or tea cup are great options for lovely flower arrangements.
