Find us on @LRMonthly @land_rover_monthly LandRoverMonthly @Landrovermonthly Out and about again SUMMER is upon us, the birds are singing and the sun is sometimes shining. All of these things just seem to collectively lift the spirits of the nation. As does the ability to legally have a pint with your mates, meet up with your family or have a haircut done by a professional. I’ve saved thousands in haircuts since my mid-twenties due to good old male baldness. And with those savings (plus a few more pounds) I’ve been able to buy a Defender – I know which I’d rather have! Despite the fact that it’s still a few days away until restrictions lift, my Defender is already packed for a camping trip with some of my Land Rover mates. We’ve all waited for this moment for…

earth photo challenge

LAND Rover is partnering with the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) and launching the 2021 Earth Photo competition, to inspire people to get out into the landscape and appreciate their surroundings. The international photography competition aims to promote environmental and geographical issues by revealing the stories behind the winning images and videos. The partnership goes back more than 40 years with the car maker working on fieldwork and expeditions with the learned society and professional body for geography, as well as providing vehicles and expertise, and funding training and outreach projects. Earth Photo has five award categories: People, Place, Nature, Changing Forests and A Climate of Change. Entries are now open, with exhibitions of winning and shortlisted images and videos in the summer and autumn.…

what comes around, goes around

Find us on @LRMonthly @land_rover_monthly @Landrovermonthly CHRIS McCormack, co-founder of Oak Ridge Engineering (ORE4x4UK) loves spending time in the Lake District, exploring all of the county’s greenlanes, and after he saw a post on Instagram about the new Coniston Mountain Rescue Team page, he decided to reach out to them to see if they could help in anyway. “I was a little taken back by the fact they are all volunteers giving up their own free time to help others and keep us safe on the hills, so when they mentioned that the standard lighting fitted to their Defenders was particularly poor, I was more than pleased to offer a set of our LED headlamps and roof spot lights. After all, that could be me or a friend on a trail needing mountain rescue.” Coniston…

return of the land rover show

THE British Motor Museum is gearing up to run a full schedule of motoring events this year, including the return of the popular Land Rover Show. Due to take place on July 31-August 1 (a changed date for 2021) it is one of the biggest days in the calendar for Land Rover fans. You will also find plenty of noteworthy Land Rovers inside the Museum, including HUE 166 (aka Huey). For more information…

closure of first four off road

AFTER 20 years of trading, First Four Off Road are closing, with the owners Peter and Rose Lamb retiring. The couple became involved with Land Rovers after they bought their first Series IIA in 1987. They were both active within the Series II Club, with Peter the club’s magazine editor and South West secretary for ten years. First Four was formed in 2001, after Peter was laid off from his driver training post with another off-road company, as a result of the foot and mouth crisis. His background, initially as a precision engineering machinist producing aircraft components for British Aerospace, and later within the steel fabrication industry, led to him combining these skills with his interest in Land Rovers, to develop a range of accessories (including their Shadow bumpers and underbody protection).…

davanti tyres expands terratoura range

TERRATOURA A/T from Davanti Tyres is launching a huge range of new sizes, including for the first time 18, 19, 20 and 21 inch, to cover the new Defender. The all-terrain tyre with 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake winter rating is now also available with optional raised white sidewall lettering. With a five rib pattern design plus stabilised tread centre point, the Terratoura A/T delivers light, responsive on-road steering, while the protruding saw-tooth shoulder blocks give mechanical traction in demanding mud, sand and snow, and reliable grip on uneven ground. Despite having only launched in 2019, it’s quickly established itself as a very capable tyre, and is even used by legendary off-road racer and driving trainer Edd Cobley for response service training and the North West 4x4 Response group.
