MG Enthusiast

January 2021

MG Enthusiast, the world's best-selling MG magazine, is the long-established make-specific publication dedicated to all MGs, covering all examples from the earliest 14/40s, through the T-Types to the more familiar shapes, including the Midget and the ubiquitous MGB; and not forgetting the more contemporary mid-engined MGF and the ZR/ZS/ZT saloons and hatchbacks.

rare and wonderful

I am imagining you now, dear reader, clad in a Christmas jumper with a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine to hand. I think we all deserve a treat after what has been a most unusual year. Our festive gift to you is this chance to read about some fantastic MGs. Jon Langford, the owner of the MkIV MG Magnette in this issue, remarked that his MG is rarer than an E-Type Jag. The MG Metro featured in this issue is also now very rare. These cars both played their part in British motoring history and it’s thanks to their dedicated owners, and former owners, that these fine examples have been cherished and preserved for future generations. Also inside this issue is a unique MGB GT with a US-specification bodyshell…

saic sales continue to climb

In November, SAIC released annual sales for the year to October 2020 which, whilst dented by the COVID-19 pandemic, showed further growth overall. The grand total for the year to October 2020 was 4,209,947 passenger vehicles, which was down 15% on the equivalent period in 2019. Looking at sales in October 2020 alone, these totalled 596,719, an increase of nearly 10% over the October 2019 in-month figure of 544,391, of which 49,000 were ‘new energy vehicles’ (pure electric and hybrid). Within those figures, the top three contributors were the joint-venture operations at SAIC-GM-Wuling, SAIC-GM and SAIC Volkswagen. SAIC Motor PV sales, which cover MG and Roewe sales (although MG Motor India and SAIC’s joint-venture in Thailand are recorded separately), reported that a total of 473,649 MG and Roewe cars were sold…

The Frank Keane Group, which has been involved in the sale of multiple automotive brands in Ireland for over 50 years, will be managing MG’s return to the Irish car market. hola! mg méxico

One of the recent arrivals on the international MG scene is MG Motor México (www.mgmotor.com.mx) run by Grup Galeria of Monterrey. Currently with six MG distributors across the country, there are aims to have 17 dealers in 11 Mexican states soon. The Mexican MG range comprises the older MG5 saloon (neither the new saloon nor the electric estate, although related to the latter) and the latest MG HS, with ZS expected to join them. MG was last on sale in Mexico in the MG Rover years (from 1933 until the company collapsed in 2005), and there was speculation then that US sales were next. Perhaps this time it could happen but it’s dependent on future Sino-American trade deals.…
