future fun

Excitement is buzzing amongst Mini fans as we get ready to enjoy a packed calendar of Mini events. See our Event Diary on page 23 and get planning your summer. It's going to be epic! It's likely that your Mini has not been used much over the last year or so and it therefore makes sense to check it over before venturing out on a long journey to a show. Be sure to make sure your Mini's cooling system is in tip-top condition by reading Tim Mundy's cooling system guide. We don't want any motorway breakdowns ruining our fun! See pages 34-38. Mini history buffs will love this issue's Archive feature which details the preparations that the BMC Works Competitions Department made in order to win its incredible 'fourth' Monte Carlo Rally…

The Mini’s designer, Alec Issiginis, built and raced a lightweight special in the 1940s and such vehicles will be celebrated on 10 July at Oulton Park at a Vintage Sports Car Club race meeting during the Vintage Motorsport Festival. The 40-minute endurance race will be sponsored by Longstone Tyres (a company that sells tyres for Minis) and will be contested by an array of weird and wonderful light cars and cycle cars the like of which, the organiser claims, has not been seen this century. another level

It must be increasingly rare for new drivers to get a classic Mini as a first car due to insurance costs, etc. For Rhys Vaus the likelihood was always high, mainly because his dad, Richard, had taken him to many Mini shows in the South East of England as a kid. Richard explains: “My first car was a Mini so the interest started there I suppose. When Rhys was born I had a motorbike at the time but, obviously, I couldn’t take him on that so his mum suggested getting another car. I got another Mini and joined Southern Mini Owners Club and Rhys was with us every weekend. We did Detling, The Hop Farm, Minis By The Sea, London to Brighton a few times. My last Mini was a…
