LEWIS LEFT SPEECHLESS AFTER MONZA FLASHPOINT WITH VERSTAPPEN
World champion Lewis Hamilton says that bitter rival Max Verstappen knew that contact was inevitable as the pair collided controversially in last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. The title-chasing duo were battling for track position after Hamilton had emerged from his pitstop and they went wheel-to-wheel into the opening chicane. Verstappen’s Red Bull, which was on the outside for the opening right-hand turn and on the inside for the next left, rode over the top of the Mercedes, ruling both machines out of the race. The pair had previously crashed amid much controversy at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, when Verstappen smashed into the Copse barrier and Hamilton went on to win despite a penalty.
