This issue is packed with a bounty of techniques, colours and styles for you, our valued readers. Techniques such as paper foundation piecing, string piecing, fused appliqué and needleturn appliqué will appeal to many skills and interests. In our new Technique Tutorial we take a close look at how a humble household item, freezer paper, can make your sewing that much easier! It can be substituted as a re-usable template or as a foundation for piecing. Some of your favourite quilters share projects in this issue — Chris Jurd, Cheryl Filby, Deborah Dorward and Megan Manwaring. Plus we introduce you to two Australian designers who share their quilts — award-winning Susan Reinhard and Tasmanian quilter, Felicity Bonner. We also take a peek inside Felicity’s sewing studio and share her quilting journey with…

Unfortunately, most exhibition labels on the quilts are provided only in Japanese characters (kanji) and not in either of the two phonetic alphabets or in English, so we have not always been able to credit individual quiltmakers or include the name of the quilt. We thank Patricia Belyea and Victoria Stone of Okan Arts for permission to reproduce photographs they took at this year’s Tokyo Great International Quilt Festival. Okan Arts, based in Seattle, Washington, has an online shop selling vintage Japanese yukata cottons. Patricia and Victoria also teach quiltmaking and conduct textile tours to Japan.
