our lifestyle

OFTEN WRITE ABOUT TIME PROBABLY BECAUSE “BACK TO THE FUTURE” IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE. Speaking of time, 22 years ago this month was the eve of the first Street Trucks magazine, which launched in August 1999. The printing presses were ablaze from the tremendous heat of the very first issue featuring “Big” Mike Kaufman’s Chevy Silverado. I still remember hearing the buzz of the “new” magazine that was about to launch. We drove around for days scouring bookstores for the coveted premier issue, which correctly reinforced “You Gotta Have It” plastered across the cover Can it get any more epic than the Kal Koncepts paint, Colorado Custom Paradox wheels, detailed chassis and countless little touches that earned this truck the honor of our first issue? Let’s not forget the epic Brian…

on my dime

EVERYONE HAS HEARD THE OLD SAYING ABOUT FINDING A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH, BUT HAVE YOU HEARD THE ONE ABOUT FINDING A DIME IN THE ROUGH? After owning and going through several trucks, one stood out more than the others. Chace Yonts’ 1988 Chevrolet S10 was his dime in the rough. Chace Yonts’ love for mini-trucks all began when he was in high school. Chace and his cousin decided to skip school one day so his cousin could take him to a shop that had several trucks that were sitting on the ground. What Chace didn’t know was that this day would change everything he thought about vehicles. They had visited The Drop Shop in Pikeville, Kentucky, and immediately Chace was hooked. He had caught the mini-truck bug. After seeing all…

FRED BISHOP’S TALE OF THIS GORGEOUS F-100 BUILD (NOW AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS EL DIABLO) BEGINS SEVEN YEARS BACK OR SO. Fred’s Uncle Dave gave him a rough “fishing truck” that had been sitting for many years. Dave had purchased the truck brand new off the lot in ’71, so he didn’t just want to see it rot out in his field. Knowing that Fred would bring her back to life properly, the plans began like many of ours do. A modest restore and driver refresh was all that was on the table for this ol’ Bump, in the beginning. Fred dug out the truck from where she sat rotting away and got it over to his buddy’s shop, Big Willie’s Garage, for some simple drivability updates. The original plan began with…

CHEVY ENTHUSIASTS WHO HAVE A NEED FOR SPEED AND ALL-AROUND ON-ROAD AGGRESSION HOLD THE SUPER SPORT LINEUP OF BOW TIE CLAD VEHICLES VERY NEAR AND DEAR. The muscle cars of the past bearing the distinctive SS badging let onlookers and would-be competition know right away what they were rocking with. From upgraded interior trim packaging, more responsive suspension components to more power under the hood, Chevy SS cars are in a class all their own. Throughout the years, Chevy truck fanatics have had the opportunity to join in on the SS lineage with special edition pickup models since the early ’90s, but none have been more popular than the release of the Silverado SS in the early 2000s. These trucks are true timepieces of style and performance, and while there might…
